SHOPBOX SEARCH

Search that actually understands your customers.

Shoppers search the way they think: “something warm for a winter walk”, not “fleece jacket”. Shopbox Search understands what they mean and who’s asking, then ranks the products they’ll actually buy. No synonym dictionaries. No blacklists.

Keyword search doesn't listen. Most AI search doesn't know who's asking.

Search is where shoppers tell you exactly what they want. Keyword tools match the characters. Newer AI tools read the language, but not the person typing it.

The old wayHow most ecommerce stores search today

Keyword search

✕ Matches words, misses meaning.

Returns what was typed, not what was meant. Typos and descriptive queries hit zero results, and someone rewrites the synonym lists every week.

AI search that only reads the query

✕ Understands language, not the shopper.

Judges every query on its own. Two very different shoppers who type the same words get the same page.

The new way

Shopbox Search

✓ Both.

Reads the language and the shopper: browsing, basket and where they came from decide what ranks first. Same engine as Smart Recommendations.

Same query. Different shopper. Different results, because they want different things.

From the words they type to the product they want.

1

They search the way they think.

A name, a description, a question, a typo. “Something warm for a winter walk” works.

2

Shopbox reads the intent.

Synonyms, misspellings and related terms are handled automatically.

3

The session adds context.

What they've browsed, their basket and where they came from shape what “best” means.

4

Results rank by what they'll buy.

Filters, comparison and guided refinement narrow the choice. Every search sharpens the rest of the visit.

Managing search shouldn't be a job.

No synonym lists, zero-results reports or Monday-morning fixes. Shopbox Search doesn't need rules to understand what shoppers mean.

  4. 04

    No dead ends

The closest relevant products, never “no results found”.

  5. 05

    Ranked for the shopper

Same words. Different shopper. Different results.

  6. 06

    Stock-aware ranking

Keep in-stock products on top, or let a strong exact match through.

How it works
6 questions
What is AI search for ecommerce?
AI search for ecommerce uses machine learning to understand what a shopper means, not just the words they type. Shopbox Search reads the intent behind each query and the context of the shopping session, such as what the shopper has browsed and what's in their basket, to rank the products they're most likely to buy.
How does Shopbox search handle typos and spelling mistakes?
Shopbox Search matches common typos, swapped letters, and words that are joined or split, so “Hotwheels” and “Hot Wheels” return the same results. Confidence scoring decides how much weight a corrected match gets compared with an exact one.
Does Shopbox search understand synonyms, or only exact keywords?
Shopbox Search understands synonyms and related terms, not just exact keywords. Shoppers don't need to use your product language to find what they want. A search for “trainers” finds products you've listed as “sneakers”, and your team has no synonym dictionary to maintain.
How does Shopbox search avoid “no results found” pages?
When a query has no obvious match, Shopbox Search shows the closest relevant products instead of a blank results page. It also shows recommendations when a query is ambiguous or misspelled, so the shopper always has somewhere to go next.
Does Shopbox personalise search results for each shopper?
Yes. Shopbox Search uses the whole session (what the shopper has browsed, what's in their basket and where they came from), so two shoppers who type the same query can see different results, each ranked by what that shopper is most likely to buy. It works for anonymous visitors, with no login needed.
Can Shopbox search return blog posts, content pages or FAQs?
Not yet. Shopbox Search currently searches products only. Search across content pages, blog posts and FAQs is on the roadmap.

Control
3 questions
Can I control how out-of-stock products rank in search results?
Yes. In Shopbox Search you can make stock status a ranking factor, so in-stock products appear above out-of-stock ones. Or you can apply a lighter weighting, so a strong exact match still appears even when it's temporarily unavailable.
Does Shopbox search support B2B catalogues with restricted product visibility?
Yes. Shopbox Search can apply account-level visibility rules, so each B2B customer only sees products that are relevant and available to them. Guardrails also stop it from showing product combinations that don't work together.
Do search results follow the same merchandising rules as collection pages?
Yes. Shopbox Search runs on the same platform as Smart Recommendations and Merchandising Studio, so ranking, relevance and merchandising rules stay consistent between search results and collection pages.

Pricing and setup
5 questions
Can I buy Shopbox Search on its own?
Yes. Shopbox Search (listed as AI Search on our pricing page) is a standalone product. Most retailers run it alongside Smart Recommendations and Merchandising Studio, because all three share the same data and platform, but you don't have to.
How much does Shopbox Search cost?
Pricing is based on the size of your business, so it scales with you. Shopbox is designed to fit retailers from small stores right up to the largest catalogues. Tell us your size and we'll give you a figure at the demo.
What do I need to set up Shopbox search?
On most platforms, Shopbox connects through our app or an API connection, so there's nothing to export. On bespoke or custom-built stores, we take a product feed in whatever format you already have and flag anything that needs restructuring. There's no synonym library or rule set to build first.
How long does it take to set up Shopbox search on Shopify?
On Shopify, Shopbox Search can be running within a couple of hours, and most retailers see value within the first few days. On other ecommerce platforms, integration typically takes one to two weeks.
Which ecommerce platforms does Shopbox search work with?
Shopbox Search connects natively to Shopify, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, Magento and Salesforce. Bespoke, headless and custom-built platforms connect through the Shopbox REST API or a product feed.

4 questions
Does Shopbox replace Shopify search or our current search tool?
Yes. Shopbox Search replaces your platform's built-in search, such as Shopify's native search, or an existing keyword search tool such as DoFinder or an SLI-style setup. It sits on top of your current store, so you don't need to replatform.
How does Shopbox Search compare with Algolia?
Algolia is a general-purpose search and retrieval platform: a set of building blocks your developers assemble and tune into a search experience. Shopbox is a single engine built for retailers, and it works out of the box. Search, recommendations and merchandising all run on one understanding of the customer, live on Shopify within hours, with no synonym lists or rules to maintain.
How does Shopbox Search compare with Klevu?
Klevu is an AI search and merchandising platform for ecommerce, so retailers often compare the two. Shopbox is customer-first: every result is ranked around the person searching, using what they have browsed, what's in their basket and where they came from, from their very first click. The same engine powers Shopbox recommendations and Merchandising Studio, so search and collection pages work from one understanding of that customer.
How does Shopbox compare with Constructor or Bloomreach for ecommerce search?
Constructor and Bloomreach Discovery are AI product discovery platforms used by many large retailers. Shopbox is designed for mid-market and enterprise retailers that want customer-first search without a long implementation: a couple of hours on Shopify, one to two weeks on other platforms, and no rules or synonym dictionaries to maintain afterwards.
